Upendrakishore Roy Chowdhury is a famous Bengali Bengali literary, pioneer of Bengali printing press. He was a co-authored writer, painter, publisher, hobby astronomy, violin and musician. He started the sandesh magazine which was later edited by his son Sukumar Ray and Gaurab Satyajit Ray. His immortal creation of Guppy-Gain-Bagha-Bain, Tuntuni, etc.

Upendrakishore was born in 1270 BS 27th Boishakh (12 May 1863) in the village of Maysua in Mymensingh district, which is still in Bangladesh. His father Kalinath Roy was handsome and graduated in Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit. His nickname is Shyamsunda Munshi Upendra Kishore, Shyamsundara, among the eight children, is the son of his third son, Kamranjan Roy, his father’s nephew, landlord Harikishore Ray Choudhury, adopted him and named him Upendrakishore Roy Chowdhury.

In 1886, Bidhu Mukhi was married to 23-year Upendra Kishore, a renowned social reformer Brahma Samaj, daughter of the first party of Dwarkanatha Gangopadhyay, and on the opposite side of the Brahmo temple of Collector Cornwallis Street, rented some of the two-storey house of Lahad’s house and the life of Upendra Kishore started. Three sons and three daughters of Upendrakshishore are Sukumar, Subinya and Subimal, and Sujon, Punalata and Santiniketan of the girls. All have been contributed to child literature. Zayatta’s daughter Subhata Rao and senior son Sukumar Ray are notable.

Yugantranath Government published his first book “Boys Ramayana” from City Book Society. Although this book is very well-known in society, the uncle of Upendrakishi, printing, was imported from abroad in 1885 with the foreign currency printed on its own fund and opened a new printing press with the number seven Shivnarine Das Lane in the new rented house, UK Roy and sauce. In 1911, he sent the eldest son Sukumar to London to get higher education about photography and printing.
On December 20, 1915, Upendra Kishore passed away only at the age of fifty.
