Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid was born on January 19, in Kishoreganj district under Kamalpur upazila of Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj district. His father’s name is Lat Haji Md. Taib Uddin and mother’s name Lati Tomas Khatun
Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid passed the matriculation from Nikili GC. High school and both I.A and B.A. Gurudayal College of Kishoreganj got his degree from the Central Law College under Dhaka University. Later, he started his business as a lawyer.
Mr. Md Abdul Hamid Chhatra League joined Chhatra League in 1959 and this resulted in his political career. While studying in college, he participated in the anti-Ayub movement in 1961. He was imprisoned by the Pakistani government in 1962 for active participation in student movement and Hamoodur Rahman opposed the Education Commission’s report. In 1962-63, he was elected General Secretary of the Student Union at Gurudayal College of Kishoreganj and was elected Vice-President of same student union in 1965-66. Hamid was elected president of the Kishoreganj sub-divisional student league in 1964 and was elected the University of Vice-President of Mymensingh District University in 1966-67. He was again imprisoned for the leading student movement in 1968. In late 1969, he joined the Awami League.
At the instruction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971, he started the movement of Kishoreganj in protest against the Pakistani rulers to create public opinion in favor of independence. In the context of the movement, on March 17, 1971, a large student gathering in Rathkhala of Kishoreganj hoisted the flag of independent Bangladesh with the map, where thousands of students participated. On the morning of March 26, 1971, after the historic announcement of Father of the Nation Father of the Nation, for liberation through Telegraph message, he immediately joined the Liberation War. In the beginning of April 1971, with the help of Bengali army officers, Hamid bought almost Taki. In Kishoreganj, Bhairab and Bajitpur branches, 11 crore taka from Taka 11 crore and deposited full amount of money to the National Bank in Brahmanbaria branch of Pakistan Bank and at that time a safe place was released for war
Then, he went to Agartala in India to participate in the liberation war. At that time, most of the MPs of big Chittagong, Noakhali and Comilla were staying there. Mr. Hamid discussed the various strategies of the liberation war with them. Along with Agartala, he interacted with local public representatives and high officials, later in the end of April he returned to Bangladesh and returned to India. After receiving some cooperation with him, he reached Balata through Tiwarhat, Guaghat, Panchhara and Meghalaya Mymens. To join the liberation war, he has come from Bangladesh who established a youth reception camp in Balay. He was the chairman of the camp. The primary recruitment of youths who joined the Kishoreganj, Netrokona and Sunamganj as the freedom fighters was mainly done in the camp. He was one of the members of the Regional Administrative Council of the Meghalaya District for managing the Liberation War and for better management of refugees. He worked as Sub-Sector Commander of Bangladesh Liberation Force (Mujib Bahini) for Kishoreganj and Sunamganj districts. He served the full time of the War of Liberation. After the victory of the liberation war on 16 December 1971, he organized this rally to encourage the Bangalees in different refugee camps of Meghalaya. On January 10, 1972, he returned to the refugees’ houses.
Mr. Abdul Hamid was elected Chairman of Kishoreganj District Relief and Rehabilitation Committee in independent Bangladesh in 1974, he was elected Vice-President of Kishoreganj District Awami League. After the brutal killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Mr. Hamid was imprisoned in the military from 1976-1978. He was the president of Kishoreganj district Awami League from 1978 to 2009 and in the year 1990-96, he was the President of District Bar Association of Kishoreganj.
Hamid was elected the senior most member of the election for the Pakistan National Elections in 1970, from Mymensingh-18 constituency. In 1972, he became a member of the Constituent Assembly (a member of the National Assembly and the Constituent Assembly of the Provincial Assembly in the 1970 elections). An Awami League and grassroots leaders have been elected as MPs of popular Awami League as a popular leader many times. He was elected a Member of Parliament from Kishoregore in the General Elections of 1973, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and in 2009
